That Marc Morehouse. What an innovator! He sent me a comment recently in which he stated the best thing about blogging is you can do it while you’re sitting around home in your underwear, sipping on a beer. Brilliant!
It’s Sunday afternoon, I’ve got the end of the Bears-Falcons game on the radio and I’m compiling my votes for the AP prep football poll. Beautiful mid-October day, by the way. I already did the newspaper-iced tea thing out in my apartment building’s courtyard, so now it’s time for ballots and a beer (Bud Light. None of that high-end stuff Morehouse drinks).
Here’s how I’m voting in the Class 4A poll. Only one top-10 team from a week ago lost – No. 5 Johnston beat No. 3 Southeast Polk – so there won’t be much of a shakeup in this week’s poll. I’ve slid Cedar Rapids Xavier into the No. 9 slot and that represents the only team that wasn’t ranked last week:
1. WDM Valley (7-0)
2. Bettendorf (7-0)
3. Iowa City High (7-0)
4. Johnston (7-0)
5. C.R. Washington (6-1)
6. Cedar Falls (6-1)
7. Ankeny (6-1)
8. SE Polk (6-1)
9. C.R. Xavier (5-2)
10. North Scott (6-1)
Schools in the other classes getting my No. 1 vote are Sioux City Heelan (3A), Solon (2A), Aplington-Parkersburg (1A), North Tama (A) and Stanton (eight-man). This isn’t rocket science.
I’m not being asked to do an area Super 10 for the paper, but I thought I’d continue it here. Here’s this week’s Super 10:
1. Iowa City High (4A), 7-0
2. C.R. Washington (4A), 6-1
3. C.R. Xavier (4A), 5-2
4. Marion (3A), 6-1
5. C.R. Prairie (4A), 5-2
6. Solon (2A), 7-0
7. Decorah (3A), 7-0
8. C.R. Kennedy (4A), 4-3
9. Iowa City Regina (2A), 7-0
10. Cascade (2A), 7-0
Remember, unbeaten powers like DeWitt Central, Mount Pleasant and Aplington-Parkersburg aren’t considered Gazette-area schools.
