We’re into Week 8 of the nine-game Mississippi Valley Conference regular season schedule and substate round contenders have come to the fore. Sixteen teams from the MVC and the Mississippi Athletic Conference will comprise the eastern half of the 32-team Class 4A substate field, based on an IHSAA points-average formula.
As it stands today, nine MVC teams would make the 16-team field, joining seven MAC schools. There are 14 schools in the MVC, 10 in the MAC.
Countless scenarios are still on the table, but the bottom line is each team in the top-16 today needs only to take care of its own business (win games) to reach the substate round.
Here are the remaining schedules for the nine MVC teams currently in the top-16 (checkout Prairie’s killer finish, although the Hawks are already in):
